Can you describe your senior capstone project?
I created my own gratitude journal, which is a calendar-like book that has creative pages for each month and spaces to write what you are grateful for each day.

What inspired you to make a gratitude journal for your capstone?
Staying grateful has helped me a lot since I was diagnosed with Juvenile Arthritis at the age of 10. I even have my own gratitude journal I write in each day! I think it’s rally important for everyone to stay positive and remember to stay grateful. Writing what you’re grateful for each day also has many benefits, such as lowering stress levels, improving mood, lowering inflammation, and increasing your positivity. When you train your brain to focus on the good things, it feels like the amount of good things in your life has doubled.

What made you decide to make camp the beneficiary of your project?
Camp is my happy place. It as helped me so much throughout the eight years I’ve been going. It’s brought me out of my shell, taught me to try new things, and has shown me countless times that I’m not alone. I thought it would be a great opportunity to give back to camp so that even more kids can get to experience the magic!

What is your favorite thing about camp?
My favorite thing about camp is how safe I feel there. Not only medically because it’s staffed with doctors, but also safe to be myself. Everyone I’ve met at camp is so kind-hearted and welcoming. I’ve met some of my best friends at camp, even after being there just one week each year. I think it’s because we’re all able to be so authentically ourselves and not care what anyone thinks. The connections I’ve made there will last a lifetime. I’ve also been able to learn a lot about myself there. It’s the one place where I know I can show my true colors, judgment free!
