Camper FAQs

What you'll do from sunup to sundown, how you'll stay on your special diet, and other camp queries.

The mission of Flying Horse Farms is to make it possible for children with serious illnesses to heal, grow, and thrive.

Flying Horse Farms is for campers who can only participate in camps that provide medical support.

Campers should be able to communicate their needs in some way. Campers should be able to participate and function in a group setting, although we can accommodate some limitations.

Our medical policies are designed to support campers so they can participate in camp activities to the maximum extent in order to get the most from their time at camp. At this time, camp assignments are made after careful evaluation by our program, medical, and psychosocial teams.

Applications are reviewed and acceptance is based on space, health care needs, and staffing ratios. While we try our best to accommodate everyone, our first priority is the health and safety of our campers.

There is no cost to attend camp sessions at Flying Horse Farms. Lodging and meals are provided.

We are committed to providing a safe camp experience. Our medical team, with our medical advisory board, is continuously evaluating the status of COVID-19 locally and nationally.

Flying Horse Farms is a summer camp program for children ages 8-15. We encourage campers to build friendships with other campers, therefore, parents and family members are not allowed to stay at camp, but may feel free to stay close by. Also, because not all campers have visitors, we highly discourage visits and phone calls to camp. This ensures that our campers are able to focus on having a blast.

After our medical staff looks over the application and approves it, we’ll send you a confirmation packet via e-mail. It will include the date of your child’s camp session, as well as some forms for you to send back to us or bring with you to camp. The packet will also include a packing list, driving directions and other important information.

Campers will be assigned a specific arrival time. This time, along with the pick-up time for the last day of camp, will be in the confirmation packet you will receive before camp. If your child needs to arrive late or leave early, to make arrangements.

The camp experience wouldn’t be the same without cabins! Typically, up to 10 campers will share a cabin along with up to four counselors (in semi-private sleeping quarters). With two bathrooms (2 toilets and 2 fully accessible showers in each), heating, air conditioning, electrical outlets and bunk beds, our cabin accommodations are comfortable yet modest. We provide all linens, blankets and towels, too. Cabin assignments are based on age and gender.

Flying Horse Farms loves families and offers family camps in the spring and fall as well as a week-long sumer siblings-only camp. Please for more information or if you have questions.

Food, bedding, and linens are all provided by Flying Horse Farms. You should bring all clothing, toiletries, and medical supplies with you to camp. Cameras, props, and costumes are also welcome!

• Closed toe shoes are required to participate in many outdoor activities
• You may wear sandals with sturdy straps and a thick sole - flip-flops can be worn in the shower or at the pool
• Make sure your shorts touch below your fingertips
• All clothing must cover your stomach/midriff
• Keep necklines of shirts appropriate, and wear tank tops with wide straps
• Please bring only wear one-piece full-coverage swimwear
• Clothing and any visible tattoos that reference drugs/alcohol/obscenities/anything offensive are not allowed
• Avoid wearing perfume or cologne as some campers are sensitive or allergic

A typical schedule might go something like this:

7:00 am—Rise and Shine!
8:30 am—Breakfast
10:15 am—Morning activities 12:30 pm - Lunch
1:30 pm—Rest time
2:30 pm—Afternoon activities
5:00 pm—Back to cabins to get ready for dinner
5:30 pm—Dinner
7:00 pm—Evening program
9:00 pm—Younger campers head back to the cabins for lights out
10:00 pm—Older campers head back to the cabins for lights out

After signing in on the first day of camp, you can walk with your camper to their assigned cabin to help them get settled in and meet the counselors and volunteers who will be spending the week with your child. Feel free to ask questions, get to know the counselors and help them get to know your child as well.
